OCTOBER 15, 2018 – Green Dot Eats

Addressing community around health and hunger. Learn about the connections of violence to health and hunger.

Activities feature: Poverty Simulation, Food Demonstrations, Instagram Story, Mindful Eating, Service Campaigning, Resources and Raffle Prizes

Parks Library Lawn (rain location Gallery, Memorial Union)

10:00AM – 2:00PM

Collaboration with ISU Dining, Student Wellness, Extension and Outreach, Green Dot at Iowa State, and ISU Wellbeing.

 

OCTOBER 16 – LECTURE SERIES featuring ERICKA HART

Where Are All the Black People? – Ericka Hart

Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 7pm

Ericka Hart is an activist and sexuality educator with a Master’s of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University. She is currently an adjunct at Columbia University’s School of Social Work and has taught sexuality education for elementary aged youth to adults across New York City for 10 years. Diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer at the age of 28, Hart realized that neither her identity as a queer black non-binary femme, nor her sex life as a survivor, was featured prominently in her treatment.

OCTOBER 17 – SEX IN THE DARK: InstaStory Live

8:00AM – 5:00PM

Sex in the Dark: InstaStory allows students to submit confidential questions to Thielen Student Health Center regarding sexual health and relationships. “Sexperts” from the campus and community answer students’ questions and connect to resources.

Kitty Genovese story was used to create the concept of the ‘bystander effect’. The bystander effect occurs when the presence of others discourages an individual from intervening in an emergency situation.

Conversations around mental health, support and how to be an active bystander. 

Light snacks provided. Green dot gear available for participants.
