What is Social Wellness?

Establishing a sense of connection and belonging through positive interpersonal relationships.

The social dimension of wellness entails valuing living in harmony with your fellow human beings, seeking positive, interdependent relationships with others, and developing healthy communication skills. It involves embracing interconnectedness, and understanding how your actions affect other people and their community. Social wellness encourages one to discover the power to make willful choices to enhance personal relationships by consciously choosing to nurture meaningful relationships with family, friends, and colleagues, and build a just and caring community. Social wellness also includes showing respect for others, oneself and other cultures. Research indicates that being socially well enhances physical and emotional wellbeing.
